The clothes you wear can assist you in your self-defense
75What not to wear to fight in!
I'm going to start with a bit of an apology, right up front, I don't think women or even guys should ever wear clothes or shoes that they cannot fight in. It's vitally important that you wear clothes that can support you in case of a violent attack. And ladies, high heels don't do that. I always suggest that if you're going to need to wear high heels at your destination location that you carry them in a purse or a bag and change when you get to your destination location.
I even saw a video, a self-defense video recently, where the female instructor took her stiletto shoes off and put them on her hands to defend against a knife. That's one of the most stupid things I have ever seen in my life. It brings up the point that you need to be able to fight in what you wear. If you cannot fight in it I don't suggest you wear it.
Let's talk shoes, good ones. If you're going to have to fight or even run make sure that the shoes that you have can in fact support that activity. This basically gets back to an article that I wrote about understanding where you are or have an awareness of your surroundings. If you think you're in an area that you could be attacked, then your clothes can play a very important role in your self-defense. As we pointed out here shoes play a critical part in your self-defense.
If you have to run then it's best to have pants on not dresses. Again you can always change into dresses and high heels once you get to a secure location. However, you really don't want to have to fight in a dress if you can help it. Shirts are another good aspect of your self-defense. A loose fitting shirt can sometimes be a great advantage in your self-defense. Jackets are also very good for your self-defense as they can be taken off and use as a weapon. They may also be used to defend against a knife in the sake of adding your arm or using it as a whipping device against an edged weapon.
A hat may also be used in a similar fashion to strike out, knock things out of your opponents hands, or in some cases the bill of a hat can scrape eyes and cause temporary blindness. They can also be great distraction devices when you throw them up past your opponents face they tend to look at the hat go by that will allow you a moment to get to a target of great opportunity.
Finally another great piece of clothing that can be used expertly as a weapon is your belt. Or even a necktie for that matter. Shoestrings can also be used as a weapon, as a choke cord, or you can place your keys on your shoestring and use it as a bludgeoning weapon.
So now you can understand that your clothes may play a significant role in your self-defense strategy. Yes, I know, everybody wants to wear their high heels and dresses however not through a risky area. Your safety is far more important than your vanity.
In conclusion, you can see that the choices you make with respect to your clothing can affect the outcome of a self-defense scenario. You might want to read my article about the four laws of getting attacked, or steps that an attack goes through, just to familiarize yourself with the concept of awareness. I will link that article here.

Also one of the things you should remember is that the clothes you wear can bring on an ataccak. Be careful what you are wearing and where you are wearing it.
I would say that captainchris is right on target, especially when it has to do with women.

while looking at hubs, i find your hub very interesting and you are very right on it. Maybe, we should wear clothes appropriate enough for every occasion. And getting your point, it is best that we should wear comfortable ones even if it would be a formal one. The least is to wear something which can easily be managed. I came to think of it as an important factor in fashion. I like your hub. Simple yet practical.=)
